WATERMELON WOMAN @ 20, Curatorial

The 20th anniversary re-master and re-release of The Watermelon Woman (2016), was produced by Cheryl Dunye, Alexandra Juhasz, and Marc Smolowitz.
We organized and worked with six Black lesbian curators, and others, who mounted a series of related video programs and art shows: at the One Archive, LA; Outfest Fusion; Pitzer College Munroe Center for Social Inquiry; and at SomoS Gallery, Berlin featuring photographs by Michael Light of the film and its crew at the 1996 Berlinale (2016). An academic conference, Black/Feminist/Lesbian/Queer/Trans* Cultural Production: A Symposium Honoring the 20th Anniversary of Cheryl Dunye’s “The Watermelon Woman” was mounted San Francisco State University with the leadership of Professor Darius Bost and a advisory committee.
